An app allowing District nurses to record details of patient interactions without paper, incorperating Map of Medicine, PGD's & Safeguarding Info.
Although this isn't an area I know a lot about, I've heard of instances where district nurses record notes on paper, and in some cases are required to return to base to fax these back to information teams, who in turn code this information.
An app allowing this information to be input into a tablet style device, and then transmitted securely back to information teams directly from the ground could have the following benefits:
- Reduce the workload on Information teams performing data input.
- Increase data quality leading to better reporting (e.g. establishing where/when MRSA has developed) and service redesign.
- Decrease the amount of time District Nurses need to spend travelling back and forth to base and thus potentially increase patient contact.
Further to the above the incorporation of the following may be appropriate:
- Basic Life Support Guidance App (http://departmentofhealth.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Basic-Life-Sup port-App/41646-15482)
- An app that calculates the optimum route for your days appointments (e.g. http://departmentofhealth.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Community-Staff-Caseload-Map-for-Safe--Efficient-Mobile-Working/45305-15482)
- Map of Medicine/Nice Guidance/PGD/BNF app? I'm not sure what other resources District Nurses use off hand?
- Inclusion of Safeguarding Adults & Children flowcharts with phone numbers to relavent parties e.g. police, social care etc etc.
As each group of district nurses may be required to record different information/indicators in addition to some standard ones, an app built on XML with some custom fields would perhaps be the best option?
Comments welcomed.
